Update: Took me 8 months to actually land a job after my tech layoff
Honestly everyone kept saying networking would get me hired fast but it took over 8 months and hundreds of cold emails to get one solid offer. I spent weeks on resume tweaks and LinkedIn posts that got zero traction until I just started calling small local shops directly. Has anyone else found that traditional advice like 'update your LinkedIn' totally missed the mark for them too?

The 8 month timeline sounds PAINFULLY familiar. I know someone who spent 6 months doing all the 'right' things on LinkedIn and got nothing. Then they went to a local coffee shop and just asked the owner if they knew anyone hiring. Three days later they had a job at a small IT repair shop. That whole LinkedIn algorithm game is a COMPLETE waste of time for most people unless you're already a big name. The real trick was you calling small shops directly. That's actually how the economy works for 90% of people. The big companies have these automated systems that just filter out real humans.

Wow, @the_wesley hit on something real there - do you think the whole LinkedIn hustle is basically just a performance for other job seekers rather than actually helping anyone land a role?
