Vent: I hit 50 job applications in 3 weeks and got exactly 1 response back.

Thought I was killing it with my resume but apparently the interview I got was just the manager feeling bad for me after 3 follow-ups.

Man forget "lost" in a stack, that's just code for "your resume went straight in the recycling bin." @lilyp37 nailed it about HR just grabbing random ones when they feel like it. I remember I followed up with a place about 5 times and the hiring manager told me they were "streamlining the process" which apparently meant they forgot I existed. At this point I'm pretty sure most of these jobs are just ghost listings anyway, or they already hired their cousin's nephew and are just going through the motions. The whole system is a joke and playing by their rules just gets you strung along forever.

Man the whole follow-up thing is such a weird dance, I had one job where I followed up like 4 times and the guy finally called me back just to say he'd "lost" my application in a stack.

Four times and he "lost" it?? That's like when I called a place 3 times and on the third try the receptionist goes "oh yeah that job was filled like two weeks ago." Like thanks for letting me waste my whole month hoping for nothing. I swear HR people just collect applications in a big trash can and pick one out at random when they get bored. At this point I'm convinced my resume just gets instantly deleted and they pretend to read it.

Lost it in a stack?? That's wild, how do you "lose" a single application when you're literally the person who's supposed to be keeping track of them.
