Was at a coffee shop in Austin and overheard a guy basically interview a stranger for a job right there at the next table.
Heard this guy in a suit talking really loud, asking this younger dude about his 'biggest weakness' and 'where he sees himself in five years.' The younger guy looked super uncomfortable, like he was just trying to get a latte. The whole thing felt so weird and aggressive for a public place. It wasn't even a scheduled interview, they just ran into each other. Is this a normal thing now? How would you even handle that situation if you were the person getting ambushed?

That's a power move, not an interview.

That "biggest weakness" question in a coffee shop is out of line. I'd handle it by shutting it down fast and polite. If a guy in a suit started that with me, I'd just say, "Hey, this isn't the right place for this. If you want to talk, send me an email to set something up." Then I'd go back to my drink. You don't owe a stranger a free interview because they decided to do one in public. It puts all the pressure on you, and it's not professional at all. Just end it and walk away.

Totally agree. Honestly, I'd just laugh and say "My biggest weakness is answering work questions in a coffee shop.
