Wasted $150 on a resume writing service and got worse responses than before

I paid this online resume service $150 to rewrite my resume for a career change into project management. The lady I worked with had me remove all my industry-specific terms and made it sound super generic. After I started using her version, I got like zero callbacks for two months. I finally went back to my old resume with some tweaks from a friend in HR and instantly got two interviews last week. The worst part is they promised ATS optimization but my old format actually got through better. Has anyone else had a bad experience with those paid resume services or found one that actually helped?

Haha so you paid $150 for the "make it boring and generic" package, nice. Love that they told you to scrub everything that made you sound like you actually knew what you were doing. ATS optimization my foot, my friend ran a test once and her "optimized" resume got flagged as spam by half the systems. Seems like the real scam is paying for someone who knows less about your industry than a 5 minute Google search. Sorry you had to learn that the hard way, but hey at least your wallet is lighter now right?

Pretty sure half of these resume services are just copy-paste jobs anyway.
