Am I the only one who saw this crazy stair detail at the old courthouse in Salem?
I was checking out the restoration work on the main staircase there last month and noticed they used a hidden steel plate inside the newel post for extra support, but you'd never know from the outside. The lead guy said they've been doing it that way for 50 years on heavy-traffic public builds. Why don't we use that trick more in regular home jobs?

Wow, that's a solid pro tip right there.

Isn't that just common sense?

Used to think it was obvious too. Then I tried it and it actually works.

People get so stuck on the obvious stuff. Like how everyone knows to drink water but nobody actually does it until they're dehydrated. Or how people say "get more sleep" but then stay up scrolling at midnight. It's like our brains need to hit a wall first before we listen. Funny how that works. The stuff that seems simple is usually the stuff we avoid the most.
