Had a carpenter claim he can eyeball level. That's pure ego, not skill.

Seriously? It's a tool for a reason. I've seen guys try that on door frames and end up with a half inch gap at the top. Or shelves that slope just enough to make stuff slide off. A quick check with a level takes two seconds and saves a callback. Sometimes the old ways are just the wrong ways.

Grab a level first thing, no excuses. Saw a guy once try to eyeball a cabinet and it was so off he had to redo the whole wall. Takes seconds but saves hours of fix-up work.

You ever trust a guy who says that? My buddy did and now his fancy bookcase looks like a funhouse mirror, all crooked. Took three trips to finally fix it.

Yeah, my last contractor tried that line on me. I just handed him my own level from the garage and said let's check. He got all huffy but guess what, the first shelf was off by a noticeable amount. After that, he used the level for every single one without me asking. It's not about trust, it's about proving the point with the tool right there. Saved my kitchen from looking like a bad DIY project.
