My old boss swore by drywall screws for everything, I finally see why

For years I used deck screws on all my framing because I thought drywall screws were too brittle, but after building a shed with the dude last summer and watching his joints hold up through a nor'easter while mine snapped, I switched over completely. Has anyone else had a stubborn mentor who was annoyingly right about something simple?

Did you ever try using them on particle board though, @thomas_torres?

Drywall screws just hold better in shear, man.

Hold better in shear" - that's exactly what my buddy Dave said. Week before last he was building a workbench. Used drywall screws for the whole thing. Looked solid. Then his kid climbed on it. Whole bench collapsed. Drywall screws snapped right off. Shear my eye. I told Dave he should've used deck screws. Or at least some GRK fasteners. He didn't listen. Now his kid's got a bruise on his leg. And Dave's rebuilding with proper hardware. Guess he learned his lesson.
