Old timer said my miter saw dust collection was a joke, he was right

Guy I work with named Dave saw me using a shop vac hooked straight to my Dewalt and just laughed. Told me to grab the Dust Deputy separator from Rockler for $60 and a 5 gallon bucket. Now I barely clean the filter and the saw stays way clearer. Anyone else try that setup or got a better one for under a hundred bucks?

That's a solid setup. Dave was looking out for you for sure (and saving you from a ton of filter cleaning). I've got basically the same thing with a cheap cyclone from Amazon and a spare bucket. It's kind of amazing how much junk stays in the bucket instead of hitting the vacuum. For under a hundred bucks, that's really the way to go unless you want to spend a lot more on a real dust extractor. You might even get a longer hose for it one day, makes moving the saw around a lot easier. But yeah, you're on the right track now, no more empty shop vac bags every week.

Same thing here. Picked up a cyclone from the big box store for like forty bucks and it catches ninety percent of the fine dust before it hits the shop vac. Haven't changed a filter in over a year.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet - those cheap cyclones actually work way better if you seal the lid to the bucket with some silicone caulk. A tiny air leak kills the suction more than people realize.
