Old timer told me my framing gun was set wrong and it saved me a headache
Guy I was working with on a deck build last summer stopped me and said my nail gun was sinking too deep. He pointed out I had the depth wheel cranked way down and it was crushing the wood fibers. Turns out I was making the framing weaker by overdriving every nail into the 2x6s. I backed it off to flush and honestly my joints are holding way better now. Anyone else had an old pro catch a simple setting that made a big difference?

...and then I spent the next 20 minutes trying to find the depth wheel on my gun, only to realize it was upside down the whole time. Old timers definitely have a way of making you feel both dumb and grateful at the same time. I still double-check my settings every morning now just to avoid that embarrassment again.

Wait, are you saying you were using the nail gun upside down or just had the depth wheel on the wrong side? Because if you actually had the whole gun flipped over while driving nails, that's a whole different level of trouble. It would definitely mess up your aim and angle. Most guns are built so the depth wheel is on the bottom or the side for a reason, so you might have been fighting the tool the whole time. Maybe your old timer saw that and just didn't want to make you feel worse about it.
