Showerthought: I heard a new guy call a coping saw a 'fret saw' the other day.

It was on a job in Boise, and it made me realize I haven't heard anyone use that term since I was an apprentice 15 years ago. Made me wonder what other old tool names are fading out of the trade. What's a piece of shop slang you still use that the younger guys don't seem to know?

Remember when a plumber's snake was just called a snake? My buddy had a new helper look totally blank when he asked for one last week. The kid finally brought over a hacksaw. We had to explain it's that coiled wire thing for drains. He said they only ever called it a drain auger at his trade school. Makes you feel old.

Tell that kid to grab the snake, @hannah400. Trade school names sound fancy but don't help on the job. Guess they also teach you to call a toilet a "porcelain throne.
