Tape measure hook wobble got me twice last week
On a deck job in Tacoma, that little metal tab on my tape kept catching and I cut two stringers short by 3/8 each. Grabbed a new tape with a thicker hook and it sits flush now. Anyone else swap tapes after a sloppy fit, or do you bend the hook back yourself?

You ever stop to think that wobble is actually doing you a favor? That hook is supposed to move, it lets you hook over a nail head or grab a board edge without fighting the tape.
Bending it back is a two second fix with a pair of pliers, and now you've got a tape that works exactly how you want it. Buying a whole new tape over 3/8 of an inch feels like throwing money at a problem you could fix in the truck.
Plus, a stiff hook that sits perfectly flush will drive you nuts the first time you need to measure into a corner or hook onto something rounded.

Wait, you're measuring inside corners with the hook flush?
