That digital angle gauge on sale for $20 seemed like a gimmick but it saved my crown molding install last weekend

I was matching a 135 degree corner on some tricky old trim and the thing got me within half a degree on the first cut, has anyone else had one of those cheap gauges actually work?

Within half a degree on the first cut" yeah I'm gonna call BS on that one. No way a $20 digital gauge is that accurate. I've used the expensive Bosch stuff and even those need a second tweak sometimes. You sure you weren't just lucky with that old trim? I've burned through three of those cheap angle finders and they all drifted within a month. Either you got the one good unit or that corner wasn't as tricky as you thought.

Stick with the Wixey ones, @parker_palmer44, they hold up better than the no-name brands. I had the same drift problem till I started zeroing them on a known square surface before each use - that fixed most of my issues.

...the trick is checking the calibration before you trust it on a weird angle, I zero mine on a random piece of square scrap every time I pull it out. Drift happens but if you get in the habit of re-zeroing before each corner those cheap ones work fine for most trim jobs. Sounds like you just got lucky with a good unit or the previous owner already burned through the bad ones for you.
