The simple miter saw trick that most carpenters skip
I was on a job site in Richmond last month and watched three guys struggle with crown molding for an hour. None of them thought to flip the board upside down to cut it. Why does everybody want to overthink this stuff? Crown molding is literally just a simple cut if you hold it right against the fence. I learned this 20 years ago from an old timer named Jerry, and it's never failed me. Has anyone else noticed newer guys skipping basic tricks?

Flipped a board once. Ended up with two shorter pieces than planned.

Laughing at that one @uma_williams... sounds like you ended up with some custom firewood instead of a proper board. I've done that trick myself, thought I was being clever flipping it around only to realize I was cutting the wrong end entirely.

Buddy of mine did that with a 2x4 and got a coffee table out of it somehow.
