Tried that "plunge base router attachment" for my trim router

Bought a $45 universal attachment off Amazon thinking it would work with my Makita. Ended up stripping the base screw threads in about 10 minutes - total waste of money. Anybody found a brand that actually fits right without modding?

The $45 universal attachments are usually made to a loose tolerance so they can claim to fit multiple brands, and that often means the screws don't grab well on softer plastic bases. Makita's own plunge base runs about $80 and it uses the same thread pattern as the fixed base, so it's a direct swap with no stripped screws. If you can find a used one on eBay for half that price, you'll save yourself the headache of fighting with universal junk.

...picked up the Makita plunge base off a tool swap Facebook group for $40 and it's been rock solid ever since. The universal ones just don't have the same thread density in the plastic, so they start stripping if you look at them wrong. Honestly, just spend the extra cash on the real deal or hunt for a used one, it saves so much frustration.
