The crosswalk light on 5th and Main lies to you every single day

I time my morning walk to the bus stop and the walk signal at 5th and Main only gives you 9 seconds to cross a six lane road. Last Tuesday I watched three people get stranded in the middle island because they trusted the green figure and started off too slow. Has anyone else found a light in their neighborhood that's just plain unsafe to follow?

honestly the countdown timer is probably just copy pasted from a shorter street and nobody at the city has ever actually walked it.

Blame the slow walkers not the light. Nine seconds is plenty if you actually step off when the signal changes instead of staring at your phone for three of them. I've crossed that same intersection plenty of times and made it with time to spare. The old folks and the people pushing strollers seem to figure it out just fine, they don't wait for the countdown to hit zero before they start moving. Maybe the real issue is people treating the walk signal like a suggestion instead of a deadline.
