The old diner on 5th closed and I still drive by out of habit

I ate breakfast there every Saturday for about 12 years, and the owner, Frank, always had my coffee ready before I sat down. Last month they shut the doors with no warning, just a paper sign taped to the window. I caught myself pulling into their parking lot this morning before I remembered, and it felt like losing a neighbor more than a restaurant. Does anyone else have a spot that vanished and left a weird gap in your weekly routine?

Frank always had it ready before you sat down... that was a two-way street there.

Did you guys ever try setting a hard rule that whoever asks pays, or splitting it right when the order comes? That cut the awkwardness for us big time.
