Walked 47 blocks of my own neighborhood in one day and the map shocked me
I set a dumb little goal for myself a few weeks back: walk every street in my zip code at least once before summer. Last Saturday I finally hit 47 blocks in a single day around the north side of town, mostly just side streets I'd driven past a thousand times without ever looking at them. The crazy part is I counted 9 small gardens tucked behind fences and 3 hand-painted murals I had no idea existed, all within a 10 minute walk of my place. There's this one alley behind the old laundromat with a row of mismatched chairs bolted to the wall, and some guy told me people sit out there every evening just to talk. I guess walking slow makes a place feel smaller in a good way, like it's actually yours. Has anybody else tried covering their own block on foot? I'm wondering how many streets I've been skipping on purpose without knowing it.
