Hit 100 bags of stuff I hauled out and it finally hit me

I started decluttering my basement about 3 months ago, nothing serious at first. Just a box here and there. But I kept a tally on my phone because I wanted to see how much actual crap I was getting rid of. Yesterday I counted up and realized I'm at 103 full garbage bags of stuff that went to donation, trash, or recycling. That's my whole sedan filled to the roof like 20 times. It mattered because I thought I was a pretty minimal person but clearly I was just ignoring all the junk I crammed into corners. Now I'm looking at rooms I barely recognized and wondering what else I've been blind to. Did anyone else have a number that stopped them cold once they started tracking?

Man that number really puts it in perspective doesn't it. I did a similar thing when we cleaned out our garage last summer and ended up at 78 bags before I lost count. The weirdest part was finding stuff I'd literally moved from our old apartment to this house without ever opening the boxes again. It makes you wonder how much extra mental weight all that clutter was carrying around that you didn't even notice. What kind of stuff did you find most of in those bags?

A hundred bags of junk sounds more like a hoarding issue than decluttering.

My neighbor actually did a huge cleanout last year and the donation center counted 87 bags before they stopped. They were just normal household clutter from 20 years of living there and not hoarding behavior. Hoarding usually involves keeping things that are broken or useless, not just having too much stuff you forgot about. Hundred bags is totally doable if you're including donations, trash, and recycling from every room.
