Hit 50 items out the door this weekend and it felt weirdly emotional

I finally counted everything I decluttered from my bedroom closet on Saturday (garbage bags, donation boxes, the works) and it added up to 53 items. That number surprised me because I honestly thought I owned way less than that, you know? The wild part is my closet doesn't even look empty, it just feels more like mine now. Has anyone else kept a running count and gotten a number that totally threw them off?

The part about your closet not looking empty but feeling more like yours really hit me. I used to think decluttering was all about seeing a big visual difference, like before and after photos you see online. Then I cleared out my kitchen last month and got rid of about 40 things, mostly old plastic containers and chipped mugs. My cabinets still look full, but now when I open them I don't get that weird guilty feeling about stuff I never used. It's like my brain finally relaxed about it.

Exactly... clearing the guilt from your stuff makes more of a difference than making it look empty.

Huh @kelly385, but isn't all that stuff just taking up space you could use for things you actually want?

Yeah exactly. The goal isn't to have an empty house, it's to not feel gross about your own stuff.
