I thought the 'one in, one out' rule was just a silly trend

Honestly, I was super skeptical about the whole 'one in, one out' thing for clothes. It sounded like extra work. But after my closet rod literally snapped from the weight last month, I gave it a real try for 30 days. Ngl, my closet is so much easier to look at now and I haven't bought anything I didn't need. Has anyone else tried a rule that actually worked when you thought it wouldn't?

Tried the "no clothes on the floor" rule. My floor is now a weird abstract art piece made of sweaters and jeans. It's not working.

Remember my mom tried that rule on me as a kid... it just meant all my clothes got stuffed into the closet until the door wouldn't shut. @the_thea your floor art sounds like a natural next step in that process. I finally gave up and got one of those big fabric bins to just chuck everything into. It's not a clean floor, but at least it's a contained mess. The rule only works if you have a real place to put the stuff.

Honestly @the_thea, that rule can backfire big time. It just moves the mess around instead of fixing it. My trick is having a dedicated chair for the "not dirty but not clean" clothes. That hoodie you wore for an hour? Chair. Those jeans that are probably fine? Chair. It keeps the floor clear and the closet from exploding. The goal is a system that works with your actual habits, not against them.
