Just realized my junk drawer cost me 45 minutes this morning

I was looking for a spare key to my filing cabinet (the one with the tax folders I need for my appointment tomorrow) and figured I'd check my infamous junk drawer. Big mistake. I spent 40 minutes sorting through old takeout menus, dead batteries, and random screws before I found the key buried under a pile of receipts. What convinced me to finally tackle the drawer was how much time I lost that I'll never get back. I ended up dumping everything on the kitchen table and only put back the 12 things I actually use, like the scissors and the glow-in-the-dark tape. It took way longer than I expected, maybe 3 hours total including the sorting and getting rid of stuff, but the drawer is still clean 2 days later. Has anyone else had a junk drawer that turned into a full weekend project?

Glow in the dark tape? That's a wild thing to just have hanging around in a junk drawer. I honestly had to stop and think about what that would even be used for. But the real shocker here is that it took you 3 hours. I would have rage quit after the first 20 minutes of sorting through dead batteries. You have some serious patience. Most people just shove everything back in and slam the drawer shut.

That 3 hours of sorting dead batteries really hit home for me. I did the same thing last month with my garage toolbox and it took me almost 4 hours because I found a stash of old broken tools I forgot I had. It's weirdly satisfying once it's done but the process is brutal.
