My friend told me my spare room looked like a storage unit and she wasn't wrong

She came over last week and straight up said 'this room looks like you just dump stuff in here.' I was kinda mad at first but she was 100% right. I had 3 boxes of old electronics from 2018 and a pile of clothes I haven't worn since college. I ended up sorting everything into keep/donate/trash piles on Saturday and now I actually have space to sit in there. Has anyone else had a friend give them a reality check about their clutter?

Honestly that friend sounds like a keeper even if it stung at first. My old roommate once told me my car was a 'rolling trash can' and I got defensive until I actually looked at the floorboard and realized there were like three empty coffee cups from different weeks back there. It took me a whole Saturday to deep clean it but after that I couldn't even pretend she was wrong cause I finally had room to put my gym bag without it tipping over. The worst part is now I keep catching myself doing the same thing with my desk at work like I just let random mail stack up until someone points it out. Maybe it's just me but sometimes a friend being blunt is the only way to get motivated to deal with the mess.

@nancyn69 that's exactly how it goes with me and my desk at home, it's like I become blind to the clutter until someone else sees it. The weird thing is once you clean it up you wonder how you even functioned in that mess, but give it a month and you're right back to stacking random papers again. Kinda makes you realize most of us just need a little outside perspective to break out of our own habits.

Oh man, I feel this one so hard. My sister once walked into my home office and said it looked like a filing cabinet threw up in there. I was ready to be mad but then I looked around and realized I had stacks of papers from like 2015 just chilling in corners. The worst part is I spent the whole weekend organizing everything and felt like a champion, but I guarantee if she came back next month I'd have a new pile of junk claiming squatter's rights. My clutter just multiplies when I'm not looking, I swear.
