Picked up a free dresser on Craigslist and it came with 3 drawers of random junk
Thought I was getting a great deal hauling this solid wood dresser home from Brookline last weekend. Opened the drawers to clean them out and found old receipts from 1997, a half eaten granola bar, and a bunch of tangled shoelaces. Anyone else deal with hidden surprises when you grab free furniture?

Those 1997 receipts are probably worth more as vintage paper than the dresser itself. I once found a petrified cheese sandwich in a nightstand drawer that looked like it had been there since the Clinton administration. At least the shoelaces give you options if you ever need to tie something up on the fly. Count your blessings it wasn't a nest of something living.

Wait, were those receipts really from 1997 or just the dresser itself?

Honestly I always thought people were exaggerating about the wild stuff you find in old furniture, but that petrified sandwich story changed my mind. Tbh a Clinton era snack is basically a historical artifact at this point, probably worth more than the dresser too. Ngl I'm kind of relieved my thrift store finds have only turned up old coins and lint so far.
