Serious question: Did you go from keeping everything to tossing stuff too fast?

I used to hold onto old clothes for years thinking I'd wear them again, but after moving 3 years ago I flipped hard. Now I donate anything I haven't touched in 6 months without a second thought. But my sister says I'm just wasting money by not giving things more time to come back into style. What's your balance between hoarding and tossing too quick?

Right after my last move I did the exact same thing. Anything I hadn't worn in a year got bagged up for Goodwill. That was about 4 years ago and I haven't missed a single piece yet. Style cycles come back but usually in a way that makes old stuff look dated anyway, so I don't buy the whole "wait long enough and it'll be cool again" argument. For me, the relief of having less clutter beats the chance of maybe wanting an old shirt again someday.

I boxed up everything I hadn't touched in a year during my move back in 2019 and dropped it all at Salvation Army. Three years later and I still don't remember a single shirt or pair of jeans I let go. I think the people who regret tossing stuff are holding onto items they actually wore a lot but just forgot about in storage. The one-year rule is solid because if it didn't make the cut in 365 days, it's not part of your life anymore. Do you find yourself second-guessing things after you toss them or is it pretty clean once they're out the door?

Your sister is right, I've regretted tossing stuff that came back around 3 years later.
