The day I finally donated my wedding dress instead of keeping it "just in case"
I had that dress in my closet for 8 years after the divorce. Kept thinking idk maybe I'd want it for a memory box or something. Then last Saturday I saw my neighbor's niece trying on thrift store dresses for prom and she looked so happy. Made me realize my dress was just sitting there gathering dust while someone else could actually use it. Dropped it off at Goodwill that afternoon. Has anyone else hung onto something way too long for sentimental reasons?

Sometimes holding onto stuff like that just means someone else can't have their happy moment yet.

You ever keep a box of old college t-shirts that haven't fit since 2009? I had one for years. Shirts were all faded, stretched out, smelled like a basement. I finally tossed them last month. Felt like I was mourning my 20s. But man, my trash can never looked happier.

That 2009 cutoff is too real. I held onto a faded gray hoodie from 2011 with a broken zipper until last spring. The thing had a bleach stain on the sleeve and the pocket was all stretched out from shoving my phone in there a million times. When I finally put it in the donation bag I sat there for like five minutes just staring at it. It's weird how a piece of fabric can hold so many memories of late night study sessions and bad cafeteria pizza. But once it's gone you realize you were just holding onto an idea of who you used to be.
