The day I realized I was folding my fitted sheets wrong for 15 years

I found out when my mom visited and laughed so hard she nearly choked on her coffee, then showed me the 'pinch and tuck' method in like 30 seconds (which I still can't do right half the time). Has anyone else had a basic decluttering task totally embarrass you when you learned you've been doing it backwards?

Wait, you had been folding fitted sheets wrong for fifteen years? That's like half a lifetime of wrestling with a piece of fabric for no reason. My mom showed me the same trick a few years back and I felt like a complete fool standing there with my balled-up sheet. Now I can do it maybe one time out of three, but the other two times the elastic just fights back and I end up shoving it in the linen closet anyway.

Idk, it's weird how we all just accept certain tasks are hard when maybe there's a simpler way that nobody tells you about. Like, folding fitted sheets is basically a rite of passage where you either figure out the trick or just give up and live with wrinkled chaos. It makes me wonder how many other daily frustrations are just waiting for someone to casually drop the solution on us. Maybe the real struggle isn't the sheets at all, but just how bad people are at passing along basic life hacks.

My mom showed me the trick when I was like twelve and I still mess it up half the time, so I'm with you there. But @seth_shah is onto something bigger with how nobody talks about this stuff. I just found out last month that you're supposed to put the tabs from a soda can through the pull ring to keep the straw from floating up, and I'm 34.

Oh man, I feel your pain on the soda can straw thing. That's one of those tricks that changes your life once you know it. What finally clicked for me with the fitted sheets was just giving up on the whole "fold it perfectly" thing. I watched a video once where this lady just tucked the corners into each other and folded the sides in like a rectangle. I tried that and it actually worked the first time. Now I just lay the sheet flat, tuck two corners into the other two, and fold it like a normal blanket. Still not perfect, but way better than the wad I used to shove in the closet. The key is to not stress about creases, bedsheets are meant to be slept on not displayed.
