The "keep one box" method beat my Marie Kondo attempt by a mile
I tried doing the whole KonMari thing last year, got through clothes and then just stopped. It was too much. Then my buddy told me to just pick ONE category a week and keep ONE box of stuff from it, donate everything else. Did it with my kitchen gadgets last month. Kept one box of the stuff I actually use, got rid of 3 boxes of random gizmos. Way easier than trying to "spark joy" with every single spatula. Has anyone else found a simpler system that actually sticks?

Wait, your sister's cat slept in the empty yarn boxes for a whole month? That's wild. I had a similar thing happen with my old DVD collection - my dog claimed the empty box and I felt too bad to toss it for like three weeks. As for tools, the box rule totally applies but you gotta be honest with yourself. If that drill hasn't left the box since you moved in 2019, it's probably time to let it go.

My sister tried that box method with her yarn collection and ended up keeping one box while her cat slept in the empty ones for a month. She says the donation center lady was thrilled to finally get decent yarn instead of the usual junk. Does the box rule apply to tools or are those a different beast?
