Wasted $80 on a storage bin system that didn't fit my closet
Bought those modular cube bins from a home store because the display looked great. Got them home and realized my closet is only 18 inches deep but the bins are 16 inches each side when stacked. Ended up with gaps and wasted floor space. Had to return everything and lost the return shipping fee and my time. Anyone else get tricked by display setups that don't match real dimensions?

Fell for the exact same thing with those cube organizers from Target last month. The display looked so perfect but they were clearly using a custom deeper shelf so everything fit flush. Now I always bring a tape measure to the store and check the actual dimensions on the box before buying anything.

@ryan_shah38 that tape measure trick is smart but are you actually allowed to open the sealed boxes in store to check or do you just measure the box itself and hope for the best?

Why don't stores just put a sign on the display that says "not to scale"? I measured my closet three times before buying those cube bins and they still stuck out like a sore thumb. The display had the boxes sitting flush in a custom frame, not the real thing. Now I just stack empty boxes in the aisle before buying to check the depth. Crew at Home Depot probably thinks I'm running some kind of box balancing contest.
