Hit my 500th paint job yesterday and it finally clicked why I do this
Tbh I never kept count of my paint jobs till I started doing rooms for neighbors around here in Toledo. Yesterday I finished up number 500 on a little laundry room for a retired teacher. I realized that every single job taught me something different about cutting in lines or picking the right finish for weird lighting. At first I thought 500 was just a random number but it made me think about all the mistakes I made early on like using cheap rollers that left lint everywhere. The big thing is I learned how to prep properly without spending hours taping everything off. Has anyone else hit a random milestone like this and felt weirdly proud of it?

Congratulated myself at 50 repaints last year and it hit me the same way. Each one is like a little chapter in a book about how not to mess up corners. I started out using those cheap blue tape jobs too and learned the hard way that peeling it off wrong can wreck a whole wall. There is something really nice about looking back and seeing how far you have come even if it is just painting. Good for you for sticking with it and keeping track like that.

The corner struggle is real @jenny47, I messed up a whole room last summer because I pulled the tape too fast. Cheap blue tape left sticky residue everywhere, had to repaint that wall twice. Fifty repaints is a solid milestone, every bad corner teaches you something new.

Exactly that with the cheap tape man, I feel your pain. I bought a whole case of that stuff at a hardware store closing sale thinking I scored a deal, ended up having to scrape gummy residue off a window frame with a razor blade for two hours. The fifty repaints thing really does put it in perspective though, each one of my screw ups taught me something different about how paint behaves when you rush it. I still get nervous pulling tape on a fresh corner but at least now I know which brands won't leave a disaster behind.
