My cheap water heater thermostat gave out after 2 years
Tbh I went with the budget option at Menards when I replaced my water heater in 2022. Ngl it worked fine until last Tuesday when the water went ice cold mid shower. Had to spend $45 on a new Honeywell thermostat from the local hardware store and swap it myself in the dark with a headlamp. Anyone else had the cheap parts fail way faster than you planned?

Is it really that big of a deal though? $45 and a 20 minute fix with a headlamp sounds more like an inconvenience than a disaster.

It's not a disaster but a $45 fix is still $45 I didn't plan on spending.

Yeah, $45 is $45. Doesn't matter if it's an easy fix, it's still money that wasn't in the budget. Not everyone's got spare cash for random surprises.
