That $15 tube of DAP caulk I swore was overpriced just saved my bathroom from a mold disaster
I was dead set on using the $3 store brand acrylic stuff for our shower reno in Portland last month. After 2 days of peeling and cracking, I caved and grabbed the DAP Alex Plus at Ace Hardware. That thing has stayed flexible through 3 rainstorms and my kid's bath splashing, no joke. Anyone else have a cheap tool or material that totally let them down?

Read a blog post that said cheap caulk is always a false economy.

Absolutely. Learned that one the hard way in my own bathroom. Cheap stuff cracked and peeled within months, letting water sneak behind the tub. Had to rip it all out and redo the whole thing, which cost way more than just buying the good caulk upfront.

Yeah I used to grab the cheapest tube too, but that story kinda changes my mind.
