Was skeptical about those peel and stick backsplash tiles but gave them a shot in my rental kitchen

I mean, I thought they'd look cheap and start peeling off after a week. But my landlord won't let me do real tile, so I grabbed a pack from Lowe's for about $60. It's been 8 months now and they still look solid, even with steam from cooking every day. Anyone else had good luck with renter-friendly updates?

My sister tried those exact ones from Lowe's and they started lifting at the corners in her bathroom after just 3 months. I think the steam from cooking is less harsh than the moisture in a bathroom honestly. Plus the adhesive leaves this sticky residue that's a nightmare to scrape off when you move out. My landlord charged me $200 for the damage it did to the paint underneath. I get that real tile isn't an option but I'd rather just paint an accent wall or use stick-on wallpaper that comes off clean.

wait $200 for some sticky residue?? that seems kinda steep honestly. like yeah the peel-and-stick tiles can be annoying but a lot of that stuff comes off with goo gone and some elbow grease. i've used them in two apartments now and the paint was fine after i cleaned it off. maybe your landlord was just looking for a reason to keep your deposit lol. plus the steam thing - i've got em in my kitchen near the stove and theyve held up fine for like a year now. maybe its brand dependent or you gotta prep the wall better before sticking em on.
