A client told me my blog posts were too wordy and it stung but they were right

I had a family law client last month tell me my blog posts sounded like a textbook. They said they just wanted to know if they qualified for spousal support without reading three paragraphs of definitions. I changed my style to shorter paragraphs and more bullet points. Traffic has gone up about 15 percent since then. Has anyone else had to completely rework their writing style based on feedback?

oh man, I had a buddy who did car repair videos and everyone said he sounded like a robot reading a manual. he switched to just talking like a normal dude and suddenly people actually watched the whole thing. sometimes you gotta let go of sounding smart to actually get through to people.

Right, because nothing builds confidence like watching a guy explain a timing belt replacement like he's reading the terms and conditions for a phone app. Your buddy probably went from sounding like he was about to sell me a warranty to sounding like someone I'd actually let borrow my tools. I swear, some people think "professional" means "soulless monotone" and then wonder why nobody sticks around past the intro. Guess the secret is out - you don't need a PhD in boring to teach someone how to change their oil.

Right, because nothing says "trust me with your engine" like sounding like a GPS that's had one too many Red Bulls. Glad your buddy figured out that speaking like a human actually helps people pay attention. Next thing you know, people will be using real words instead of corporate jargon to sell stuff.
