Feel that pain, my own site looks like it was built from a kit you buy at a gas station. Honestly though, that client did you a favor by saying it out loud. Half the local business sites I see are basically the same page with a different phone number swapped in. Makes you wonder if Google even bothers reading them anymore.

Yeah I used to think a clean template was fine, but that kind of feedback really hits different. Makes you see it from a customer's view.
