Legal SEO Changed Completely After Google's Helpful Content Update
I've been doing Edmonton legal marketing for about 12 years, and everyone kept saying local SEO was dead after that update in late 2023. But I actually saw my firm's organic traffic go up 40 percent over 6 months when I stopped writing generic blog posts and started answering specific legal questions people in Edmonton actually search for. Has anyone else seen better results from focusing on hyper-local questions rather than broad legal topics?

Another thing nobody brings up is how Google's update actually punished law firms that were outsourcing content to cheap writers who didn't know local court procedures. My buddy runs a family law practice in Calgary and he saw a huge drop when his ghostwritten posts talked about "filing in civil court" for something that's actually handled in provincial court in Alberta. When he started writing his own posts mentioning specific things like how Edmonton's Court of King's Bench handles divorce differently than the small claims process, his pages started ranking again. Have you seen any weird ranking changes based on whether your content matched the actual local legal process or not?

Betty, is anyone really convinced a single algorithm update changed the entire legal game that drastically?
