Ran two different Google Ads campaigns for my firm last quarter, one with generic keywords and one hyper-local to Edmonton. The local one cost 40% less per lead.

Yeah, "set money on fire" is too real, @stellaperry. I tried a big, broad campaign for a home service last year and it was brutal. We were getting clicks from people three towns over who would never book. Switched to targeting just our neighborhood names and even specific streets. Suddenly the calls were from people who actually needed a plumber that week.

Ugh, that "money on fire" feeling is the worst! I did the same thing with my dad's handyman ads. We were paying for moms in another county to look at pictures of a leaky faucet. Switched to a three mile radius around our shop and bam, real jobs. It's crazy how the big platforms just happily take your cash for useless clicks.

Cost 40% less per lead" is the dream. My last campaign was the opposite, I basically just set money on fire. Hyper-local seems like the only way to go now.

Remember you can still go broad if your offer is for something people will travel for. Hyper-local is perfect for services, but not for everything.
