Rant: Google local service ads were a total scam for my firm

I spent $800 on those Google Local Service Ads for my Edmonton injury practice last month. The guy from Google promised me a flood of leads, and I got maybe 3 calls that were actually real people. Then I talked to a buddy who runs a family law firm in Calgary, and he told me he canceled his after wasting $1,200 in 2 weeks with zero conversions. Has anyone here actually had these pay off for a small firm in Edmonton, or is it all just a money grab?

Flood of leads that turn into three calls? Sounds like a pretty dry flood to me. Maybe the whole thing is just a really expensive way to learn that Google's promises are about as solid as a chocolate teapot.

Flood of leads" is basically every ad pitch I've ever heard which usually means it's time to walk away.

It reminds me of how every infomercial promises "life changing results" in ten minutes flat. You see the same pattern with those weight loss ads or get rich quick schemes, they all use the same overhyped language. If something sounds too good to be true in sales, it usually means they're trying to distract you from asking real questions. Learned that the hard way after falling for a "guaranteed" roofing lead service that sent me nothing but wrong numbers.
